It feels great to make a difference! Join our extraordinary family of volunteers, ranging in age from 14 to 93, who donate their time and show their compassion on campus and in the greater community.  At this time we are only accepting applications from those who wish to fulfill a current opening. After completing an application and attending an orientation/interview, prospective volunteers will need to pass a background check, be tested for TB, and get a flu shot (depending on volunteer location).

Activities and Recreation

Volunteers help with a wide range of activities that take place on The Wasserman Campus including art classes, poker, mahjongg, knitting group, trivia contests, parties, bingo, billiards, and more.

Administrative Volunteers

As a nonprofit organization, MPTF would be hard pressed to accomplish all it does without the assistance of volunteers. We have many opportunities for volunteers who are more comfortable in an office setting including filing, phone answering, and data entry for those with basic to advanced computer skills. Knowledge of MS Excel and MS Word and Raiser’s Edge is helpful.

Computer Tutors and Tech Squad

Volunteers help with basic computer skills such as setting passwords, sending e-mail, finding information, using the internet safely, and more. Tech Squad helps on campus and in the community with smartphones, tablets, and laptops.

The Daily Call Sheet

The Daily Call Sheet provides companionship, support, and friendship to our residents and clients who are aging-in-place. Whether it’s a quick check-in to say hello or to talk about a favorite television show or movie, sporting or current event, volunteers provide much appreciated socializing.

Event Volunteers

MPTF hosts events throughout the year to raise contributions to support the organization’s services and programs. Volunteer with us if you would like to assist with stuffing packets and goody bags, mailing invitations, taking RSVPs, manning a will-call table, or other event activities.

Friendly Visitors

Volunteers are matched with those in their neighborhoods and on campus who benefit from regular social visits from fellow industry members. Visits offer tremendous benefits including improved physical, mental, and emotional health — and keeping a positive outlook.

Home Safe Home Program

With the assistance of volunteers, we help people in need continue living independently in their own homes. Home Safe Home assesses safety issues, makes recommendations, and assists with home repairs and improvements.

Junior Volunteers

Students who are at least 14 years old, have a positive and compassionate attitude, and are able to socialize easily with seniors have many available opportunities that include helping on the Tech Squad as a desktop, phone, tablet, and laptop tutor; accompanying residents to and from the on-campus movie theatre; visiting with residents; participating in arts and crafts; music; social activities; and working in MPTF Studios and Media Center. (Must be 16 or older to work in the Media Center.)

There are three shifts for Juniors. 9:30am-1pm; 2-4pm; 4:30-6pm and on Thursdays and Sundays 6-8pm.  There are six volunteers per shift. Special programs are flexible.

Library Volunteers

Library volunteers will keep the several libraries on campus neat and organized. They will add and remove periodicals; assist residents with finding and checking out materials; catalog and shelve new material; and assist residents with obtaining and returning books from LAPL.

MPTF Studios and Media Center

MPTF Studios and Media Center is located on The Wasserman Campus and provides opportunities for residents and volunteers to develop and create programming that serves the MPTF residential community.  Integrating volunteers who are current industry members and student volunteers including internships for school credit into the process preserves the tradition of shared knowledge in the entertainment industry. There are many opportunities for volunteers who have previous experience in editing, camera work, graphic design, production support, hair and makeup, or scenic design and those willing to learn. Volunteering can be per project or ongoing.

Pool Buddies/Fitness Floor Buddies

Volunteers are matched with those who may need assistance getting in and out of the pool or with fitness equipment at the Saban Center for Health and Wellness. People who love the water, but may have balance or coordination challenges, can go back into the water thanks to their Pool Buddy. Fitness Buddies assist seniors with work out equipment to stay fit and healthy.

Shoppers

Volunteers offer assistance with grocery and other shopping to those in the community who have frailty or balance issues or no longer drive. Shopping assistance helps maintain a sense of independence, as well as a home stocked with fresh food and necessities. Volunteers are also matched with residents on campus to help with their shopping needs, including accompanying residents on planned outings to local malls.

Volunteer Guild – Celebrating 50 Years of Service

The Volunteer Guild is a legacy membership group that was established in 1966 for industry members who want to volunteer at a higher level of service. Requirements include a minimum commitment of 75 hours per year and attendance at monthly meetings on The Wasserman Campus.

The Guild is governed by a Board and adheres to by-laws. Members pay dues, which go towards birthday and holiday gifts, parties, and special needs for the residents.

Members must be themselves, or an immediate family member of, a current or retired industry member.

Members of the Volunteer Guild serve both on and off campus.
